The Earth, ravaged by the monstrous SCAR, must be saved by Hunterkind. And chief among all Hunters are the destined Wielders, charged to bear the Astravatar - the First and Final Weapons, incarnated unto the world to arm mankind.
Soon to join the Hunt is a most unassuming girl, nonetheless chosen to be the next Swordbearer…
Go forth and engrave yourselves upon the world, Hunter. For our ancient enemy answers only to the echo of our Steel.

WE ARE THE HUNT (W.R.T.H.)
Creation | January 2026
ABOUT
Created after ending Remnants, I wanted to take the core ideas & elements that inspired me from Remnants: namely, the core idea of both cool combat/weapons + an anime fighting academy.
We Are The Hunt is a creative project where I answer one question: How do I take the typical concept of the monster-slaying anime battle school, and not only make it as cool as possible, but also make it uniquely mine?
We Are The Hunt is a live creative journey, where my fans can see and follow the development of an original project from the beginning: seeing every step of character design, story creation & concept art, watching a story as it’s created. You can follow WRTH primarily on my YouTube channel, where I document its fruition through videos & community posts.
THE HUNT SO FAR

First ever sketch of the main character girl. Her name is still unconfirmed (been flipflopping between either Gale or Ringo) so I'll refer to her as MC throughout.
MC concepting.
MC + starting on the next girl, Vise.
More Vise.
Girl no. 3. This is Julie.
A yet unnamed girl. I just tentatively called her Neora in my notes.
Admiral Thrane, the first male character concepted.
A yet unnamed second male. Still deciding between making him a mentor figure to MC or more of a grey moral figure sort.
Another male, this time a student. Still unnamed, but I picture him as being from a humble fishing family.
More MC, and the first concept art for the oni girl, Helia.
More MC.
MC and Helia. The initial concept for them was that they grew up together in an orphanage as kids.
MC and Helia as students.
Another male concept. His design is taken from an old OC I made for a different story idea, Gidean. Dunno if he'll make it into WRTH.
Helia and MC. This is one of many, MANY explorations I'll be doing of MC's hairstyle.
MC. I liked the jacket + hoodie combo.
MC shoe concepting.
Julie hairstyle exploration.
More Julie (featuring MC).
Initial concept for MC's weapon #1. It's rad but I might repurpose it for a different character instead.
Initial concept for MC's weapon #2.
Some concepts for Julie's combat. I had the idea of prosthetic arm blades + smart knives that she could command remotely.
Concepting for Helia and Neora's weapons.
Concepting for a new character, a bratty girl who had a giant scissor blade and could clone herself. The brat idea would be kept for a later character, Iris.
Helia hair concepting. The more of a main character a girl is, the more likely I am to be intensely anal about the hairstyle.
Helia weapon rework. I had the idea of a jet-powered baseball bat.
More Neora.
Concepting of Helia's bat combat style.
Concept art of a SCAR, the main monstrous antagonist force in WRTH.
More Helia concepting. Her entire concept is "oni gyaru", and 90% of the work is trying to get the exact vibe I wanted. Should she seem mischievous? Tomboyish? Airheaded?
Concept of Helia having a "super mode". The initial idea for the power system is that the stronger it manifests, the more "saturated" the character's colours become.
More Neora. I was considering having her be a martial artist type who'd fight with floating orbs.
Vise. At this point I was experimenting with giving her bird/angel features, and how to go about showing those features.
Concept for an unconfirmed robot girl.
More Vise. For a while I was thinking she could have a missing arm, and in its place is a magic energy arm manifested by her powers.
Concepting for Iris, the brat girl. At this point I was thinking that she'd be Vise's sister and rival. In this image I was imagining her as an idol - cheerful as a mask but a menace inside.
More concepting for MC's hair.
More Helia hair. A lot of agonising over how wild to make her hair.
Initial lineup. I regularly draw the main characters in a row together - it helps me visualise them together and go back and forth between them adjusting their overall designs. Left to right: MC, Julie, Vise, Helia.
Helia.
MC and Helia.
Concepting for Julie. Her initial concept is a girl with animal/elf ears so there was much experimentation with ear + hair combos.
MC. Was experimenting with the idea of making her a wolf girl.
MC outfit concepting.
MC outfit concepting (coloured). Went for a rugged punk look.
Helia concepting. After a lot of sketching I felt I finally landed on a good direction with her here. The road to finalising her is still long though...
Vise. Experimenting with giving her "head wings" that blended with her hair.
Vise uniform and colour scheme concepting.
More Julie. Couldn't decide between long or short hair.
Another concept for Helia's bat weapon + combat. The idea is cool but would later be reworked.
First sketch page for Vindica, an adult Hunter woman. At the moment I'm imagining her as a grisled veteran Hunter and strict combat instructor.
More Helia hair concepting...
Vindica.
Side profile study of the four main girls.
Vise hairstyle concepting.
MC, Vise and Helia concepting.
More MC concepting. Played around with the idea of giving her long hair.
More MC hair exploration.
MC.
Helia and MC outfit sketch.
MC uniform key art test. Was also experimenting with using typography to flesh out WRTH's graphical direction & aesthetic.
MC uniform exploration.
Vise uniform exploration. At this point I wanted a uniform design that could reasonably suit all the characters and look good on them. Focused mainly on neutral colour schemes like white, grey and black.
Julie rework. At this point I ditched the idea of giving her feline/canine ears and experimented instead with other animal features.
More Julie, plus a quick character lineup so I can compare their updated designs side by side.
Helia.
Facial recognition. Even though I wasn't fully satisfied with their designs, I wanted to draw comics of them interacting to further flesh out their personalities and dynamic with each other.
MC rework. At this point I was experimenting with a slightly more futuristic, sci-fi lean to the character designs.
MC hair + eye colour scheme exploration.
MC outfit exploration.
More MC outfit exploration. I cannot deny I love girls in skintight bodysuits.
Experimenting with different jacket lengths to combine with the bodysuit. The added clothes help ground the sci-fi elements in a more contemporary modern aesthetic.
More MC outfit concepting.
Concepting different outfits for MC.
Another outfit rework. I was thinking she might be a part-time runner, parkouring around the city making deliveries for clients.
MC colour schemes.
Sketching MC (plus Julie cameo).
MC in uniform.
Logo concepting for the Aurora Group, a world-spanning megacorporation that organises the Hunts the characters go on. It was here I started brainstorming potential factions in WRTH's world.
More logo concepts for the Aurora Group.
A promo image explaining the Aurora Group. I ended up liking multiple of my logo ideas so just made them as subdivisions of the main corporate body.
Helia concepting.
Vise concepting. With the inclusion of the Aurora Group, I knew I wanted Vise to be one of their premier sponsored Hunters, wearing their official gear. I wanted to emulate the idea of a human F1 racing car, wearing their sponsors' colours and brand logos.
More Vise concepting.
More Vise. I experimented with the idea of her head wings more, wanting them to suggest the appearance of twintails.
Vise's casual fit. The idea was she was a rebellious spirit who is nonetheless beholden to the Aurora Group. Above her grungey clothes she wears an Aurora racing jacket.
Helia outfit concepts, tying to figure out her fashion sense.
Vise comic. Unfortunately she will be the designated flat girl of the group.
Power system concepting. I had the idea of the powers manifesting as an "art style change" appearing on the character.
More Helia.
MC. Experimenting with the idea of her as a summoner.
Vise and Helia, ironing clothes.
Playing around with Vise's head wings, and how the wings move around based on her emotions.
New cast lineup. After abit of a rut trying to figure out their designs, I tried to mix it up by drawing them based on different artstyles, which helped me figure out better how to take their designs. Left to right: MC (FLCL), Helia (Gurren Lagann), Vise (Evangelion), Jullie (Bleach).
MC sketches using FLCL's artstyle as reference. It added some spunk to her overall vibe which I liked. It's here that I also finally started settling on a hairstyle I liked.
Cast promo image.
Playing around some more with what MC's summoning powers could look like. A lot of FLCL influence for sure.
Reworking MC based on the artstyle studies I did.
Reworking Helia's powers, called Overblade. She can manifest metallic blades & protrusions from her body. This let me settle on the idea that her oni horns are a result of her powers, as opposed to being an actual oni.
Sketches visualising Helia's powers in action.
More of Overblade.
New character, Lynn. I knew I wanted a mentor figure for MC, so I settled on the idea of a jaded drunk office lady, just as much on a journey of self-discovery as the MC she's teaching.
New character ideas. The left is further work concepting Iris (Vise's sister). On the right is revisiting Neora's concept as a martial artist girl. Whether this girl will be merged with Neora or made a separate character remains to be seen...
MC sketches (featuring Helia).
Sketching out scene ideas for WRTH "episode snapshots". First is Lynn and MC counting their losses after a botched Hunt. 2nd is MC recording her team. 3rd is MC eating with Helia and Vise. 4th is the concept for a SCAR boss enemy.
Playing around with making Vise's head wings draconic instead of avian after seeing a dragon Hatsune Miku artwork by Pikatl. The bird wing still suit Vise better though so I'll stick with those.
More MC. Gave her freckles here and I think something finally clicked for her design at last.
Drawing out the different layers of MC's uniform. Finally arriving at a uniform design I like.
Playing around with different hair + eyes colours for MC. I still like the brown hair the most so that'll be what sticks.
Sorry MC, I couldn't help myself...
Reworking MC's powers and weapons. I always loved handcannon revolvers and found it suited her well. At this point I'm also arriving at a power system I liked and found cohesive, centred around the idea of ancient magical Weapons, with each Weapon choosing its Wielder. In this case, MC is the Wielder of the Sword.
Wanted to draw MC in a gun firing pose. Gonna have to get good at drawing these poses if she's gonna be getting in lots of cool action scenes.
Julie rework. Also starting to settle into a design I like for her. Gave her a demon tail, with her twin sickle weapons suggesting the appearance of wings.
